What exactly is the hype surrounding 2012?

So let’s just say that something catastrophic is supposed to happen, maybe a huge tidal wave or a polar shift – the answer is, nobody knows. There is no scientific proof that anything will happen on the date predicted by the Mayans, and for all we know it may just be another “Y2K” scare. Here are some predictions that people are saying will happen with a great possibility: Flu Pandemic, Nuclear War, Religious Apocalypse, Polar Shift, Time Travel Error, Asteroid, Alien Invasion and Gamma Ray Burst. That is certainly a lot of things to be worried about but most people believe this day will pass without much cause. I would, however, pay special attention to the war prediction. It seems that lately America has been dabbling a bit too much in foreign politics and with the threat of Iran’s nuclear program, there very well could be a World War Three – something everyone agrees would be a catastrophic event. 2012 also marks a day when there would be a “point of no return” concerning the effects of global warming on the polar ice caps. If we don’t reduce carbon emissions by this date then it may be too late to reverse an ice cap melt down which would flood major cities on all coastlines of the world. Whether any of this will actually happen is yet to be known but there are some well respected people who point to this date as a monumental year in history, something that we should all pay careful attention to. One thing is for sure, come 2012 there will be some very paranoid people running around.
