What exactly is the hype surrounding 2012?
So let’s just say that something catastrophic is supposed to happen, maybe a huge tidal wave or a polar shift – the answer is, nobody knows. There is no scientific proof that anything will happen on the date predicted by the Mayans, and for all we know it may just be another “Y2K” scare. Here are some predictions that people are saying will happen with a great possibility: Flu Pandemic, Nuclear War, Religious Apocalypse, Polar Shift, Time Travel Error, Asteroid, Alien Invasion and Gamma Ray Burst. That is certainly a lot of things to be worried about but most people believe this day will pass without much cause. I would, however, pay special attention to the war prediction. It seems that lately America has been dabbling a bit too much in foreign politics and with the threat of Iran’s nuclear program, there very well could be a World War Three – something everyone agrees would be a catastrophic event. 2012 also marks a day when there would be a “point of no return” concerning the effects of global warming on the polar ice caps. If we don’t reduce carbon emissions by this date then it may be too late to reverse an ice cap melt down which would flood major cities on all coastlines of the world. Whether any of this will actually happen is yet to be known but there are some well respected people who point to this date as a monumental year in history, something that we should all pay careful attention to. One thing is for sure, come 2012 there will be some very paranoid people running around.
2012 The Movie
2012 is a major motion picture set to be released by Sony Pictures Entertainment, written, and directed by Roland Emerich. The movie is an end of the world type disaster movie in the vein of Armageddon and Last Day on Earth. Roland Emmerich is the same director who brought us Independence Day, Godzilla and The Patriot. It’s no doubt that this guy knows how to make big budget tent pole movies, but his last few movies have been a bit lackluster and left something to be desired. The plot will revolve around the doomsday predictions of the Mayan Calander and will, of course, involve all sorts of events that will lead to the death of the Earth. Some of the events in question will be a nuclear holocaust and mass extinction of humans through natural events such as hurricanes and floods. The movie stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet and Woody Harrelson. Originally this movie was to be directed by big budget Paramount director Michael Bay. He is occupied with the production of Transformers 2 and may also be a late sign on to direct the Disney Prince of Persia movie. All is not lost for the possibility of a Michael Bay doomsday movie. He is set to make another 2012 spin off for Warner Brothers based of the book “2012: The War for Souls.” Another similar 2012 movie will be made by nickelodeon but is sure to be a much lighter movie with more heart than blood. Composer-writer Harald Kloser is penning the script and the movie is expected to hit theatres in 2009. It looks like we will indeed be set for another Deep Impact vs. Armageddon showdown from the early decad. Going off of that comparison, if I hade to put my money on someone I would definitely put it on Bay and Warner Brothers but anything is possible. Take a moment to view the trailer.
